Anchorage, Alaska – United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that Robert Louis Woods of Sacramento, California was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage for his role in a conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute oxycodone.

            Woods, age 25, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess to 48 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release for his role in the drug conspiracy.

            According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Jack S. Schmidt, the defendant was a member of a large scale drug conspiracy that transported oxycodone from Sacramento, California to Juneau, Alaska.  Members of the conspiracy utilized commercial package delivery services and drug couriers flying on commercial flights to transport oxycodone to Alaska.  Woods was responsible for recruiting and accompanying drug couriers from Sacramento who transported oxycodone on their person.  The oxycodone was then delivered to other members of the conspiracy in Juneau for subsequent distribution.  Woods collected drug proceeds from previous drug shipments and  sent back drug proceeds to other coconspirators located in Sacramento, California via bank deposits, wire remittance services, or drug couriers.

            Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Burgess indicated the extreme seriousness of the offense, the need to deter the defendant and others, avoiding unwarranted sentencing disparities, and to adequately address the defendant’s leadership role in the offense.

            Ms. Loeffler commended the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations, Port of Seattle Police Department, and Juneau Police Department-Drug Metro Unit for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of the above listed defendant.
